On Saturday, January 25, 2025, Walter J. Tengowski, age 77, died peacefully with family by his side. Beloved father of Craig (Shelagh) Tengowski, Mark Tengowski, Damien Tengowski, and Rachel (Brook) Tengowski; grandfather of Haleigh, Caralyne, Christian, Owen, and August; brother of Thomas Tengowski, Kenneth Tengowski, Robert Tengowski, Roberta Tengowski, Henry Tengowski, Adrienne Staresinic, and the late Adrian Tengowski; son of the late Henry and Laura Tengowski; former spouse of Bernadette Rogan, the mother of his children. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Walter grew up in Polish Hill and later lived with his family in Squirrel Hill before relocating to Highland Park, Aspinwall, and Lawrenceville. Always a hard worker, Walter started his career at the Pittsburgh Press, then moved on to real estate, and later had jobs at Airborne Express and DHL before retiring.

He was a loving father who found great joy in spending time with his kids: playing and watching sports together, sharing his favorite music, taking the family on vacation, and always telling the best stories and jokes. His children will always remember him as a fun, caring dad and will miss him immensely. Walter was also a loyal friend who cherished the time he spent with his wonderful circle of friends. He will be fondly remembered for his playful sense of humor, electric personality, and so many other admirable traits.

Walter and his family greatly appreciated the care he received from the staff at Canterbury Place, his home for the last 12 years.

Friends and family will be received at WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME (Lawrenceville), 216 44th Street on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 2-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10 am at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
