Violet Viola (Vissat) Samulski, age 99, resident of Glenshaw, living with her daughter and son-in-law during the past five years, formerly of Herminie, PA where she was born, raised and lived for most of her life, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2022. Violet was a gracious woman of steadfast faith, sincere charm and understated elegance. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle and generous spirit and was an inspiration to her family and friends.
Violet was born on January 8, 1923 in Herminie, PA, the daughter of August and Pennsylvania (Biasucci) Vissat. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings: Melda Wrobel, William Vissat, and Edward Vissat; and by her devoted husband Alex, and her son Alan. She is survived by her loving daughter Alexis Samulski and dedicated son-in-law and caretaker Joseph Abeln of Glenshaw, PA, grandson Kirk Samulski of Landsdale, PA, and many nieces, nephews, and friends in Herminie and beyond.
She was an active member and volunteer of St. Edward Parish in Herminie, PA for many years, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post 8427. She was an avid reader with a quiet demeanor, and her secret to a long life (as she proclaimed) was "never doing anything bad".
Visitation will be held at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME in Lawrenceville, 216 44th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201 on Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church (of the Shrines of Pittsburgh) at 57 21st Street and Smallman Street in the Strip District.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of your choosing. Interment will take place that afternoon at Westmoreland County Memorial Park at 150 Eastside Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601.
