Steven
Sansonetti
January 24, 1950 – July 18, 2024
Steven Sansonetti, 74, of Pittsburgh, Pa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at home. He is lovingly remembered as a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.
As the oldest of five siblings, Steve had a terrific sense of humor and was a practical joker. He loved to make people laugh and his easy-going nature and friendly demeanor made him instantly likable.
He served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry as an Infantry Rifleman. Steve received a Letter of Commendation for his "tireless efforts, outstanding attitude, and burning enthusiasm," and was honorably discharged.
He had a passion for culinary arts. He developed his love of food as a young man and enjoyed helping in the kitchen with his mother. After returning from the service, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY where he took pride in developing his skills as a chef. He displayed those skills at the Alcoma Country Club, Pittsburgh Athletic Association, Juanita College, the Carnegie Museum restaurant and for the Marriott Corporation for 25 years including at Virginia Beach .
Steve carefully curated and distributed the Sansonetti Family cookbook which included his own recipes as well as the recipes of family members. He wanted to ensure the "culinary secrets" were passed along to future generations.
Steve was an incredibly proud father and grandfather. He always put his children and grandchildren first as they were the most important people to him. He would never miss an opportunity to bend your ear with their latest news and accomplishments.
In his later days, Steve enjoyed being a vibrant part of his residential community at the Riverview Towers. He often prepared dishes for their social events and enjoyed watching football games and meeting with the men's group on Thursdays. He will be dearly missed by all of his neighbors.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ann Sansonetti. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Damian (Ilma) Sansonetti and Stephanie Sansonetti and his grandchildren whom he loved so much, Isabella and Enzo. He is also survived by his siblings, Paul (Maureen) Sansonetti, Linda (Mike) Mosesso, Ken (Veronica) Sansonetti, and Donna Sansonetti DiPofi(Albert), his friend and former wife, Deborah Ardner, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. All will treasure his memories.
Friends and family are welcome to gather on Friday, July 26, 2024, 2-8 pm at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th St, Pittsburgh, PA 15201. A service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00 am with interment to follow at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.
