Obituary

Age 93, born in the Southside of Pittsburgh where his parents Joseph Veltre and Carmela (Grande) Veltre resided, having migrated from Italy through Ellis Island in New York. Loving husband of 43 years to Carol Ann (Gmiter) Veltre who preceded him in death. Devoted partner of Ann Beck for the past 25 years.

He is survived by his sisters, Madeline Bruckner and Susan Denk, his brother Sam and his children Melinda (Ken) Eiben, Wanda Kent and Joseph (Kimberly). He was the proud, affectionate grandfather of Tara (Eric) Jagnow, Monika Kent, Joey Kent, Vincent and Michael Veltre, Emily (Mark) Waugh and Sarah Eiben. Great grandfather of Jordan Jagnow and Violet Waugh.

Ralph completed a long, successful career as a civil servant, advancing through highly responsible positions within the federal government - primarily as an IRS agent and supervisor as well as various roles in the Department of Energy, and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Following his retirement, he built on his significant tax expertise and eventually created his own business, establishing Veltre Tax Service in the South Hills region. Over the next 30 plus years he provided services to an ever-expanding clientele, preparing personal and business tax returns, representing clients under audit and negotiating settlements for a range of "problem cases."

Ralph was an outstanding athlete in his day until a severe knee injury during a "sandlot" football game ended his competitive career. Later in life he volunteered as a coach for the St. Louise de Marillac  football and basketball programs, teaching and mentoring a wide range of young student athletes and leading several teams to championship seasons in the Diocesan leagues of that period.

A passionate "foodie" (ahead of his time), Ralph possessed a legendary appetite and fortunately his lifelong commitment to exercise and fitness allowed him to fully enjoy his love of a delicious meal.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders or the Wounded Warrior Project.
