Nitai Das
Paonessa
January 30, 2000 – July 4, 2025
passed away on July 4, 2025 at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania at the young age of 25, following a brain aneurysm. Nitai was affectionately known as "Nit" by his sister Jahnava, "Magnus" by his grandfather Craig, and "The Gentle Giant" by many who knew and love him. He spent his final days completely surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Born in Alachua Florida on January 30th, 2000 to Jennifer Monroe and David Paonessa, Nitai was a curious and happy baby. As a young boy he loved collecting sticks, playing with Legos, and riding his red scooter. He participated in many sports including playing on a soccer team and going to tennis camp. Nitai's enthusiasm for tennis would continue into adulthood and was fostered by his father who played competitively.
In the sixth grade, Nitai moved to Pennsylvania with his mother and sister to be near family. Here he continued his education, eventually graduating summa cum laude from CCAC with an associates degree in Cybersecurity. His education landed him a job with PNC Bank that quickly developed into a career where he attained the position of Senior Fraud Analyst, or as he would say, "I'm protecting grandmas". This seemed a fitting role for someone with such a strong moral compass. Even while working at PNC Bank Nitai continued to better himself, taking classes towards a computer science degree.
Nitai's talent extended beyond the classroom into possibly his favorite pursuit, Magic: The Gathering. For Nitai Magic was more than a game. It connected him to a community of friends that gathered weekly to share meals, play games, and embark on adventures. It was a magic tournament that enticed him to explore the busy streets and restaurants of Chicago with friends. Nitai's sense of adventure once propelled him on a solo exploration of New York City, where he had an amazing time going where the day takes you, especially if that place has delicious bagels. His willingness to partake in whatever opportunity presented itself was one of his charms. He was up for camping or kayaking anytime, and enjoyed many afternoons swinging in his hammock reading Brandon Sanderson fantasy novels. He also found great joy in cooking. His dishes always stood out at family gatherings and some would have stood out at the finest of restaurants. His biscuits were legendary. What stands out most, though, is the love and gentleness with which Nitai engaged everyone in his life. Nitai was a sensitive soul, a deep and supportive listener, and a loving person through and through.
Nitai is survived by his loving Mother Jennifer Monroe and her partner Brian Dougherty, his Father David Paonessa, his sister Jahnava Paonessa, and his partner Jasper Kopfinger. Nitai is also survived by uncles and aunts Randy Monroe, Robin Monroe, John Monroe, Megan Incollingo, grandparents Ginny Monroe, Craig Monroe, Shirley Higgins, John Higgins, and many cousins who love him. Nitai was predeceased by his grandfathers Ronald Raybuck, David Pratte, and William Paonessa. Memorial Services will be held in Meadville Pennsylvania on July 26th, 2025.
