Obituary

Michael Francis Rebel, Sr., 82, peacefully went home to the Lord, on Friday, May 15, 2026. From Middlesex Township and formerly Lawrenceville and North Side. Michael was the beloved son and last surviving child of the late Howard A. and Catherine (Cronin) Rebel, and was preceded in death by his siblings Father John Rebel, Howard “Buddy” Rebel, fraternal twin Joseph Rebel, Timothy Rebel and Mary Brody. Survived by his children Michael, Jr. and Rachel (Dorben) and their mother and his loving wife Kathleen (Matuszek) Rebel, with whom Michael would have celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary on May 18th. Father-in-Law to Pamela (Hunt) Rebel and Brian Dorben; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Michael served in the U.S. Army as a Medic from 1963-65. He worked at Miller Printing Company for several years in the mid 1960s. He worked as an usher at Forbes Field, the Civic Arena and Three Rivers Stadium. He worked for over 35 years at Equitable Gas Company as a laborer, gas meter repair man, and backhoe driver, retiring in 2003 due to a disability. He will be remembered for the love of his family, his Christian faith, his love of children and pets, his sense of humor and his kind nature. Michael enjoyed his cruises with his wife, family trips to Florida, many trips to Arizona to visit his son, as well as his trip to Ireland in 2000. He had a fondness for movies, music, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Errol Flynn, Billy Joel and the Blues Brothers. He was a good man and will be missed by many.

Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Butler VA Community Living Center or Parkinson’s Disease Research.
