Age 97, of Stanton Heights, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Stephen "Steve" Matkovic; loving and caring mother of Erika (Chuck) Butera, Steve Matkovich and Linda Matkovic; cherished grandmother of John Michael (Sheila) Duffy, Lisa (Matt) Mertz, Christa Martin, Jesse, Stephanie and Stephen (Maria) Matkovich; devoted great-grandmother of Caileigh, Keira, Eamon, Hannah and Lyla; sister of Ivanka Grguric and the late Slavko and Josip Klobucar; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mitzi was born in Croatia and came to America in 1954 with her 2 1/2 year old daughter to be reunited with her husband. She was proud of her Croatian heritage. Her heart and home were always open to all and her greatest joys in life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved, adored and spoiled. Mitzi enjoyed listening to Tamburitzan music, dancing polkas, gardening, word search, watching the birds in the backyard, knitting, sewing and also played the accordion. Mitzi was an exceptional cook and baker who made all of her traditional family recipes.

She was a past member of the St. Nicholas Mother's Guild and was a member of CFU Lodge #34.

Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Nicholas Church, Millvale on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Family requests for masks to be worn.
