Margaret "Peggy"
Bugrin
May 4, 1939 – May 5, 2023
Margaret "Peggy" Bell Bugrin, peacefully reunited with her loved ones in heaven with Jesus at her side on May 5, 2023, a day after her 84th birthday. Survived by daughter Judy (Steve) Cobain; daughter Joann (Art) Cantrell; daughter-in-law Connie Bugrin; 7 grandchildren Matthew (Kathy) Cantrell; Erin (Paul) Cobain Swiecicki; Karen (Greg) Miller; Colleen (John Paul) Gorden; Bridget (Jack) Albright; Adam Bugrin and Blake Bugrin. 7 Great-grandchildren: Hope, Noah, Evan, John Paul, Monica, Amelia and Catherine. Sister-in-law of Dolly and Buddy Chismar; many nieces and nephews from the Brown and Chismar families, and lifelong friend of Rich Cywinski and Sandy.
Preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Donald Bugrin; her son, Donnie; her parents Henry and Margaret Bell, her sister Mary Jane Brown and her lifelong best friend Joanne Traub Cywinski.
She was a graduate of St. John the Baptist High School in Lawrenceville where she was raised. After marrying Don Bugrin, Peggy moved to her home on Townview Street in Shaler where she raised her own family and lived for more than 50 years.
Dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a homemaker and devout caregiver with a strong faith and an unwaivered gratitude for life's numerous blessings.
Peggy was social throughout her entire life. As season ticket holders, she enjoyed going to Pirate games with Don sitting at first base. She spent decades traveling to Kiawah Island, SC with family and friends. As a senior, the highlight of her week was playing cards with her friends at Alverno Apartments.
Peggy had the ability to make others laugh with her sense of humor, practical jokes and comedic antics that were like Lucille Ball. To so many, she was a best friend, confidante, listener and advice-giver. True to her Italian heritage, she learned to cook pasta just like her father and loved to his family dinners. Her home on 101 Townview was like Grand Central Station and the front door was always open to anyone who randomly stopped by. Friends were important to Peg and she always said "to have a friend, you have to be a friend". She knew the work necessary to keep friendships for life.
Her relationship with God was important and despite the difficult circumstances and many losses she endured, she never lost her faith. When her husband Don of 35 years died, she became a widow at age 54. Her only son, Donnie, died at 36 in 2006 and left behind a young family. She never questioned God, but instead, found gratitude in her grief. Peg was quick to offer an apology and never left an issue unsettled. She always said "I love you" and she lovingly expressed her emotions.
She wanted to be with people, her family and friends mattered most. She maintained lifelong friendships from her roots in Lawrenceville and her early foundation at St. John the Baptist School from the 1940's-50's to present day. She was proud of where she came from - she loved being from Pittsburgh.
An early job with JB Bernstein's Jewelers in the Clark Building brought her joy as she sold many young couples their wedding rings. Her later employment as a telephone operator with GMAC was appropriate as she spent hours upon hours daily on the phone connecting people. This transferred to a favorite daily routine of talking on the phone to friend and family far and near, listening to and cheering up everyone and anyone in need of conversation.
As a beloved "Mimi", she had a knack for making people feel special, she did so for each of her 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and was happy for others. She never expected perfection but nicely encouraged with support.
Peggy loved the beach, the sun, like painting, going out to eat, going out and doing fun things, shopping and fashion. She always believed she was lucky (even with some quirky superstitions), but it was those who were blessed to have her in their lives who were the lucky ones.
