M. Jean
Marti
September 1, 1930 – January 18, 2025
M. Jean Marti, age 94, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
Jean was born on September 1, 1930, in Pennsylvania to Mary and Henry Peteya. At the age of 15, Jean had to leave school to help support her family following her father's passing. At 21, Jean married the love of her life, Gordon Terrance (Terry) Jackson. After Terry passed away when Jean was 40, she courageously returned to the workforce and single-handedly raised their four children. Jean worked for Mellon Bank until retiring and enjoyed her job every day. However, her detremination and resilience shone through when, at age 55, she returned to earn her GED. Jean found love a second time at the age of 65 when she married Frank M. Marti. Together they would travel around to places like Alaska, Virginia, and many others.
Jean had a deep love for her family and enjoyed many simple joys, including solving crossword puzzles, taking Slovak classes to reconnect with her native language and teaching her grandchildren, cooking for family gatherings, where her haluski, pasta fagiola, lazy pierogies, homemade pizza, and her famous nut bread became a beloved staple. Her "muddy" coffee and sharp wit were as much a part of her identity as her compassion and love for others.
Jean is survived by her children: Terrance G. Jackson (Tammy Jackson), Susanne Jackson, and Daniel S. Jackson (Joann Jackson). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply. Jean is also survived by many nieces and nephews who thought the world of her. Jean was preceded in death by her husbands, Gordon Terrance Jackson and Frank M. Marti, and her son Michael F. Jackson (Lori Jackson).
