John Joseph "Jack" Jakubowski

January 18,1947-September 29, 2023

Pittsburgh. Jack passed away on September 29, 2023 at the age of 76. Predeceased by his beloved twin brother James "Jimmy" Jakubowski and parents Ladimir & Stella (Ganczak) Jakubowski.

Beloved and greatly missed by his family and friends, he is survived by his daughters Susan (Michael) VanAlstine and Kristin Jakubowski, grandson Robert Dickson and the mother of his children & lifelong friend, Helen Jakubowski; his sister Janet (Richard) Jai; nephews and nieces Brian (Diane) Jakubowski, Stacey (Pete) Caughey, Terri Jakubowski; great-nephews Daniel Jakubowski & Zach Caughey, great-nieces Audrey Jakubowski and Julia Fazio; Aunt Ethel Ganczak, and cousin Ted (Loraine) Ganczak; dearest friends Sean Murrin & family and Kenny Hillman & family; and many other dear friends.

Not one to ever sit still for long, Jack loved spending time with his family and friends, playing & watching tennis and working on a variety of (usually car-related) projects. An Alumnus of Central Catholic HS and the University of Pittsburgh, he had a lifelong love of learning and enjoyed a number of careers from mechanic to light water breeder nuclear control operator to master plumber. Working on cars was a lifelong passion, beginning in his teenage years with Jester's Service to his own business and hobby shop, mentoring aspiring mechanics that "you need to be smarter than what you're working on" and most recently sharing his knowledge with his grandson, Robert. Though his daughters were less mechanically inclined, they learned enough of the basics to be self-sufficient without needing to immediately call dad (especially in the time before cell phones!). He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and made final gifts as an organ donor.
