Age 87, passed away on September 27, 2021 in Miami, FL. He was born in Pittsburgh in 1934 and graduated from Oakmont High School. John earned his B.S., M.S., and PhD in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He was a professor of civil engineering at Carnegie Mellon and worked 40 years as a civil engineer and a principal at GAI Consultants in Pittsburgh. John was known for his intellect, his unfailing honesty and integrity, his friendly and witty nature, his lifelong love of learning, and his amazing ability to watch the weather channel for long stretches. He was endlessly devoted to his family and greatly appreciated his Slovenian heritage and music. He is survived by Kathy, his wife of 54 years; his children, Suzanne, John, Laura, and Amy; his grandchildren; and his sister, Mildred Garland. A Mass of Christian Burial was held October 2, 2021, in Miami. Entombment will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery at a later date.
