Suddenly, on October 19, 2022 at his apartment in Pittsburgh, PA. He was 46 years of age. Son of J. Carlton Gartner, Jr. MD and Maureen Kay Gartner; brother of Amy E. (Tim) Barry, and Andrew P. Gartner; uncle of Ella K. Barry and Zachary J. Barry; special friend of Deidre Pruitt and Carol Wells.

John (or Carlton, as he was called by family) was an excellent student and athlete with a wonderful sense of humor. He graduated from Winchester-Thurston High School and attended the Universities of Pittsburgh and Delaware until serious mental illness began to dominate his life. His family members have many fond memories of his life and his remarkable intellect and humor. May he finally rest in peace. The family gives special thanks to his caretaker, Jude Rutkowski, who helped John immensely over the past few years. She made a difference in his life.
