Obituary

Of Gibsonia, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, age 90.

Beloved wife of 67 years to the late James M. "Jim" Burns Jr.

Loving mother of Linda Joan Reznik, James M. Burns III (Marlene), and Kathleen Burns-Melnick; Proud grandmother of Sara, Danny, Jimmy IV, Allie, Elliott, Kiersten, and Lindsay; Cherished great-grandmother of Alexander, Bella, Liam, Fynn, Austin, Emerson, Seamus, and James Patrick. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends Joyce Carney and Diane Miller.

Daughter of the late Bridget and Charles (Dooley) Merlina; Joan was the last surviving sibling of nine Merlina children.

Joan spent 18 years with Equibank/National City Bank and 22 years serving her faith community at St. Ursula Parish (Our Lady of Perpetual Help), where she lovingly managed parish envelopes, attended the weekly bingo, and joyfully organized the annual church tea. She found her greatest happiness in spending time with her family. Joan will be remembered for her warmth, faith, and generosity — a friend to many.
