Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Jean Lewin, age 87, at Family Hospice in Pittsburgh on Saturday, January 4, 2025.  Jean was born and raised in St. Joseph, MO, and moved to Upper St. Clair, PA, in 2022 to reside at Friendship Village Assisted Living.  Jean was full of energy, an advocate for social justice, happy to support a cause, and always ready to share a story about her life until the very end.  She loved reading, playing cards, discussing politics, listening to music, following her grandchildrens' activities, attending Sunnyhill Unitarian Church of the South Hills, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.  Jean graduated from the University of Missouri in 1959 and attended professional training at Yale's New Haven Hospital.  She enjoyed a career as a Medical Technologist working in various hospital labs in New York, Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, New Jersey, Kansas and Missouri.

Jean is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Dorothy (Hagele) and Jesse "Buddy" McIntosh, and brother Roger McIntosh.  She is survived by brothers Gary McIntosh, Jim McIntosh, Bill McIntosh, and John McIntosh. She leaves many wonderful nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

Jean graduated from Benton High School, Class of '55.  She is widow to Richard Lewin who graduated from Central High School, Class of '52.  She is survived by her children Webster Lewin, Kenneth Lewin, Jeffrey Lewin, Melissa Kashlan, and foster daughter Linda Studaker.  She leaves grandchildren Oscar Lewin, Braden Lewin, Jasmine Lewin, Isabelle Lewin, Layla Kashlan, Jude Kashlan, Maya Kashlan, and foster grandson Jason Studaker.

Jean's final wish was to donate her body to further medical education.  She was accepted to the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine at her death.  A group service will be offered along with other donors at Heinz Chapel approximately 1 year after her donation.   Please contact Melissa Kashlan for details.

A special thanks to the staff at Friendship Village who kept her cheerful and active in her final years, and the staff of UPMC Mercy Hospital and Family Hospice who cared for her in her final days with great skill and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in her name to Sunnyhill Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills at: https://sunnyhill.breezechms.com/give/online.
