Francis "Bunny"
Stokes
November 3, 1923 – November 8, 2024
Francis peacefully passed away on Nov. 8, 2024, at age 101. He was born on Nov. 3, 1923 in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA to Richard and Margaret (King) Stokes.
Bunny joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served as an Aviation Ordnance man with the VPB-84 squadron until his discharge in April, 1945.
He married Dorothy Plucinski (Pierce) of Lawrenceville on March 31, 1945. They had 60 wonderful years together. He worked as a welder for McConway & Torley Inc. and for the U S Post Office Special Delivery Section. Upon his retirement in 1981, the couple moved to Florida. He was faithfully devoted to the church serving as an usher at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Englewood, FL. for over 20 years. After Dorothy's death in 2005, Bunny moved back to Pittsburgh to be with his family.
Throughout his life everyone loved his kindness, smile and good humor.
Preceded in death by: wife, Dorothy; Parents, Richard and Margaret; and siblings, Agnes, Marge, Harry and Richard.
Survived by sons: Jerry (Connie), Dan (Sue) and Dave (Mary).
Grandfather of Jonathan (Stina), Michael (Krista), Kimberly, Jim (Laura), Bill, Heather Bittner (Sean), Jennifer Carroll (Jim), Autumn Stotlemyer (Paul).
Great-grandfather of Dylan Bittner, Chris and Andrew Stokes, Austin, Ryland and Jase Carroll, Ivy and Ali Stotlemyer, Ben Stokes.
Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201 on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 2 PM – 8 PM. Funeral Mass at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, St. Augustine Church on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
