Obituary

On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the world got a little dimmer. The bright light and beautiful soul, fondly known as the "Oberek Lady" left us. Dolly (Dolores) Krzeminski shared almost 93 wonderful years with family and friends across the country, polka dancing her way into everyone's hearts with her sweet spirit and easy laughter. Her love of Polish music is legendary and many thanks to those in the musical community for the many hours of enjoyment you provided, and especially for your weekly musical dedications.

Her generosity knew no bounds - Dolly loved to cook and bake, often making her famous lady lock cookies or stuffed cabbage for every type of occasion. And then there was the greeting cards…Dolly made it a point to remember everybody's birthday, anniversary, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Get Well or just even Thinking of You - every day was a perfect day to send a greeting card. And the sparklier the better!

Being a teenager during WWII brought many young men in the military through Pittsburgh and Dolly always had wonderful stories to share about this time in her life - walking down to Penn Station to wave to the soldiers on the troop trains - many of them throwing pieces of paper to the young girls, papers with their parents' names and phone numbers for the girls to call to let these young boys' parents know that they were safe and what city they had just traveled through. Dolly made many of those calls. She also remembered having sailors come sit with her and her friends on their front steps, just to visit and chat, or writing to soldiers using Victory Mail. This left such a soft spot in her heart for Veterans everywhere and she donated to many organizations to aid them.

There was also a deeper side to Dolly - a side that was very passionate about justice and fairness. A news story about discrimination, dishonest or immoral behavior could quickly spur a robust and enthusiastic discussion about the state of the world. Not one for political debates, Dolly still followed all news stories, debates, speeches, hearings - anything that kept her informed about the direction of our country.

Recently, Dolly experienced a string of seemingly routine medical conditions that unfortunately culminated in a medical crisis from which she would not recover. With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the decision was made to cease all treatment in favor of comfort care.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Brown and Patty Blazer, beloved granddaughter Annie Blazer, brother Alexander (Sonny) Grzegorczyk as well as cousins and fierce friends Janet Grzegorczyk, Pat Pawlicki, Irene Spychalski and Stan Gregory, and so many great friends and extended family.

The lives she touched and the friends she made are countless. Dolly's final wishes were to be remembered as she was in life, not death, and her request to forego any viewing or funeral services will be honored. Donations in Dolly's honor to any of the wonderful organizations supporting our Veterans would be graciously appreciated. Dolly will be supremely missed by all who were fortunate enough to share their lives with her or even cross her path for a short while. Her indelible imprint on all our hearts will remain forever.
