Courtney Alexander Murray, 82, of Churchill, formerly of East Liberty, sadly passed away at home on September 6, 2026.

Courtney was born on May 15, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA.

Courtney leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him, especially those who cared for him throughout his life at Transitional Services, Inc., Wesley Family Services, and Monarch Hospice. To the people who cared for Courtney, he was so much more than someone they supported—he was family, a familiar face, a friend, and someone who touched their hearts in ways that words can hardly describe.

If you ever spent time in the streets of Pittsburgh, there is a good chance you crossed paths with Courtney. He was a familiar and unforgettable presence throughout the city. Courtney had a love for his bicycles and rode them with a passion. His bike was more than just a bike—it was a part of who he was and a part of the freedom and joy he found in everyday life.

Courtney also loved baseball, and he especially loved his Pittsburgh Pirates. He enjoyed following the Pirates and sharing the excitement of the game. His love for baseball and his hometown team was another one of those simple things that brought him happiness and gave him something to look forward to.

Courtney also loved the simple things. He enjoyed walking the streets of Pittsburgh, sitting or laying in the grass, smoking his cigarettes or his beloved pipe, and simply taking in the world around him. He had his own way of doing things and his own way of letting you know exactly what was on his mind.

And then there was Courtney's smile.

It was nearly impossible to make eye contact with Courtney and not fall in love with him. His adorable smile could brighten a moment, even on the hardest days. He had a personality that you simply could not forget—his potty mouth, his funny comments, his random requests, and the way he could catch you completely off guard with something he said or did. Courtney was unapologetically himself, and that is one of the many things that made him so special.

Those who knew Courtney know that he was not just a person you happened to meet—he was someone you remembered. He had a way of leaving a little piece of himself with everyone who crossed his path. His presence brought laughter, conversation, patience, and sometimes a little bit of chaos, but most of all, it brought love.

Courtney's life was filled with people who cared deeply for him, and although his journey was not always easy, he was surrounded by people who made sure he was loved, cared for, and never forgotten. To everyone who was part of Courtney's life, thank you for loving him, caring for him, advocating for him, laughing with him, and simply being there.

Courtney was preceded in death by his beloved brother, William Murray.

Courtney will be deeply missed—not only by those who knew him personally, but by the many people throughout Pittsburgh who knew his face, saw him riding his bike, watched him walking the streets, or simply shared a moment with him.

His bike may no longer be riding through the streets. His voice may no longer be calling out with one of his random requests. His smile may no longer greet those who passed by. But the memories of Courtney will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Rest peacefully, Courtney.

Ride your bike wherever you are now. Lay in the grass, take your time, watch a baseball game, and cheer on the Pittsburgh Pirates. Enjoy the peace you deserve. Keep that beautiful smile and your one-of-a-kind personality forever in our hearts.

You were loved.
