Catherine "Mousey"
V. Vranic
November 24, 1925 – December 26, 2025
On December 26, 2025, Catherine (Kate) Vranic of Shaler, affectionately known as "Mousey," passed peacefully at the age of 100, surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Catherine lived a long and meaningful life rooted in love, hard work, faith, and devotion to family. She was the beloved wife of the late John Vranic.
Catherine was a devoted and loving mother to Joyce (James) Gratter, Linda (the late Chuck) Girty, and the late Cheryl Fetterman. She was a cherished grandmother to Thomas Pijanowski, Cheryl (Joe) Perri, Charles (Kim) Girty, Joseph (Christine) Girty and Melissa (Jeffrey) Kostelnik and a proud great-grandmother to Taylor (Caitlin) Perri, Chelsea (Brandon) Sensor, Briana (Nick) Helmick, Thomas Pijanowski Jr., and Sean Pijanowski. She was especially proud of her great-great-grandchildren—Colt, Harrison, Crew, Blakely, Remington, Logan, Kennedy, Paisley, and Tanner—who were truly the light of her life.
As the matriarch and foundation of five generations, Catherine's love, strength, faith, and guidance created a family legacy that will continue to flourish for years to come.
Catherine was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Garasich and was preceded in death by her ten siblings. She is also survived by additional grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Catherine found joy in life's simple pleasures—bingo, playing cards, puzzles, and, above all, spending time with her family, which brought her the greatest happiness throughout her long life. A hardworking and dedicated employee, she spent nearly 40 years managing the Heinz Company Store, where her commitment, warmth, and kindness were appreciated by all who knew her.
Her century of life was filled with love, family, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
