Dr. Carlos A. Placci passed away in his home on Sunday, June 23rd at the age of 90, culminating a lifetime of personal and professional achievements.

Born in Córdoba, Argentina, he excelled in academics. Most importantly, he dedicated himself to his first love: music.
A piano virtuoso at an early age, he studied under the most well-renowned teacher in Argentina. Facing limited opportunities for continued musical training in Argentina, he enrolled in the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, graduating with a medical degree. He completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati Department of Psychiatry (Ohio), and settled in Pittsburgh, where he and his wife, Leonor, raised 5 children.

He was a beloved member of the Pittsburgh medical community, having touched many lives. Initially a teaching doctor at Western Psychiatric Hospital, he went on to private practice for over 20 years at Clinical Psychiatry Associates, where he was a founding partner. He worked tirelessly at countless hospitals, clinics, geriatric homes, the county jail, and inpatient centers across the greater Pittsburgh area. His happiest moments as a physician were spent at UPMC McKeesport, where he was the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry. He retired at the age of 85.

Never forgetting his first love, he played piano throughout his entire life with friends from near and far, even hosting international guest performers from the Pittsburgh Symphony.

He is survived by his wife, Leonor, his children, Gabriela (David), Lucila, Sebastian (Audrey), Alejandra (Michel), and Veronica, grandchildren Victoria, Amelia, Pilar, Leonel, Marco, Fiona, Camila and Sofia, his sister Elena, brother-in-law Norberto (Ines), and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private memorial for family and friends will be held at a later date.
