Obituary

"Grandma Bea" as she was affectionately known to many, passed peacefully at UPMC Family Hospice, Lawrenceville, on April 7, 2023 at the age of 93, after a short battle with cancer. Born and raised in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh has always been her home. Bea retired from St. Francis Hospital where she worked as a nurse's aide for years. North Park Church was her "retirement job" where she cared for the toddlers and taught Sunday school. She always had a love of children and the energy to match. "Lucky Dog Kennels" was literally her 'pet' project - Bea was always available to dog sit and cared for many dogs throughout her life.

She will be remembered for her infectious smile, generous and loving heart, and always for her love of dogs. She had many furry companions in her life who we are sure will be waiting to greet her - Patches, Toby, Rex and of course Lucky. She leaves behind her son, Vince Fischetti (Heather) and daughter Patty Laffey-Andros-Wolfe (Rick) and closest friend Joan Confer.

She will be missed by her grandchildren, Richard Ford (Jen), Erica Fischetti, Joe (Steph) and Craig Laffey, Andy Andros, Jessica McBee (Tim) and Michael Doucette (Molly Silverman). She is survived by many great-grandchildren who she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Anna Coda, and her adoptive parents Vincent and Josephine Casanova, husband Al Szolis, daughter Shelley Ford and son Richard Szolis.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Canterbury Place, Personal Care, for the loving care and compassion they showed Bea. Bea touched the hearts of everyone she met and enjoyed the love and companionship of many friends in her long and loving life.

The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in the celebration of a life well lived at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME , 216 44th Street , Lawrenceville, on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Service at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
