Obituary

98 years old, of Lawrenceville, died peacefully on Friday, July 1, 2022. She was born January 10, 1924. She is survived by her children Nancy Stasiak of Bellaire Bluffs, FL, Eileen (the late Joseph) Ciummo of Collier Township and Kenneth (Correne) Stasiak of Plum Boro, by her grandsons Christopher (Antoinette Tupper) Murphy of Leesburg, VA and Michael (Lori) Murphy of Carnegie and her adored great-grandson Liam. She is also survived by her sister Anna Kaczmarek of Crafton and her very many muche loved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her companion of 61 years, John Maloy, who passed away 7 months ago, by her parents Thomas and Josephine Stosich, her siblings Mary Balkovec, Frank Stosich, John Stosich and Margaret Yakich, niece and nephews Betty Balkovec, Dan Balkovec and John "Sonny" Balkovec.

Toni was a 1941 graduate of Schenley High School. She then worked for the City of Pittsburgh Police where she was a member of the first class of Pittsburgh Crossing Guards. She also worked for the Allegheny County Health Department. She worked for the City of Pittsburgh primarily in the Department of Highways Bridges and Sewers, retiring in 1982 with 33 years of service. Toni was the first women to take and pass the Bridge Inspector exam after her boss told her that no woman could ever pass that exam. She subsequently declined the bridge inspection position stating that she only wanted to prove her boss wrong. When she turned 90, January 10, 2014 was declared Toni Stasiak Day in the City of Pittsburgh honoring her for her depth of spirit and commitment to her family and community.

Toni loved sports and was an excellent athlete. She managed the very first championship 9th Ward girls softball team on which her daughters played. She was an avid golfer and belonged to various womens' golf leagues in the area. She and John Maloy took many golf trips together. She loved to dance, laugh and is famous for her rapier wit.

Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME,216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Angels Parish, St. Augustine Church on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in memory of Toni to the National MS Society, PA Keystone Chapter, 1501 Reedsdale Street, Suite 105, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
