Obituary

The bell rang and Anthony "Tony" Sberna gained his angel wings, on October 24, 2023 at Washington Hospital with his wife at his side. Anthony was born in Pittsburgh on December 19, 1949. He attended Arsenal High School in Lawrenceville and was a skilled baseball pitcher. After high school he briefly served our country in the Air Force. During his time at St. Margaret's (now UPMC) he worked in the laundry department and was fortunate enough to meet his future wife.

Anthony is remembered fondly by his family and friends for his kindness, sense of humor, intelligence, and easy-going nature. He was the one to go to if you couldn't remember who sang a song or was in a particular movie. He was the one to go to for advice, if it was health related he almost assuredly would ask if you drank enough water and then would call you every time there was a segment on the news about your ailment. He wasn't known for his fashion sense, often found wearing a pocket T or flannel and jeans, he did however always have a hanky handy. He loved his family so dearly he was always the one to call to check in on you because he was worried.

His favorite things included fishing, collecting and playing vinyl records, playing the saxophone and spending quality time with his family. His family looked forward to sharing his eggnog and mashed potatoes at holiday time as the rest of the year he was seldom found in the kitchen. He was a collector ot family mementos and loved to look back on things and share memories otherwise long forgotten. He was known by his family for his catch phrases, including: "think about it... beep", "focus like the locust", "remember who loves you" and his drawn out good byes. Anthony is survived by his wife, Theresa Sberna; his daughter, Amy Lynn Zaytoun and her husband, Eric; his grandchild, Zachary Kretzer; and his brother, Michael Sberna and his wife, Diana. Anthony was preceded in death by his Father, Anthony Sberna; Mother, Maryann Sberna; Brother, Joseph; and Sister, Maryann.

A celebration of life for Anthony will be held at a time yet to be determined. Expressions of condolences or flowers can be sent to the family at 205-B Glen Andrews Dr. Glenshaw PA 15116. Donations can be made in Anthony's honor to the American Heart Association.
