On Friday, May 20, 2022, "Nino", age 90, went to be with his heavenly family. Formerly of East Liberty (Collins Avenue), raised his family in Highland Park (Jackson Street). Husband of the late Marlene E. (Gionta) Ionadi (wife of 62 years). Father of Phillip A. Ionadi, Sr. (Patti), Renee Ionadi (Lawrence), and Anthony Nino Ionadi (Jacqueline). Grandfather of Dana Ionadi, Phillip A. Ionadi, Jr. (Dawn), Vita Marlena Ionadi, Regina Ionadi (Nick), and Stefanie Ionadi. Great-Grandfather of Courtney, Cameron, and Kendall Stack, Gianna Bofo, and Vincenzo Petrarca. Son of the late Phillip and Rose (Montesano) Ionadi. Nino was the last of his siblings to pass on. Brother to the late Concetta (Ionadi) DeGaetano (Conrad), Virginia (Ionadi) Costa (Anthony), Rose (Ionadi) Asturi (Augie), Pasquale "Pat" Ionadi (Margaret), and Paul Ionadi (Mary). Also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nino was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a P.O.W., spending 33 months in a North Korean prison camp. He was a survivor of the Red "Death March" under a North Korean Major "The Tiger", who was notorious for his brutality. He was the recipient of numerous medals for his service. When he returned home, he married and went to work for the City of Pittsburgh as a Laborer and retired as a Foreman after 27 years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at camp. He also loved his many casino trips with his in-laws. A special thank you to all the staff at the VA Medical Center - Aspinwall for the kindness, loving care, and friendship so freely given to our father. The family is honoring Nino's request that there will be no visitation or funeral.
